The island of Malta is unrivalled in its wealth of History, developed over thousands of years of successive invasions by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs, Normans and the Spanish, French and British.  For almost 300 years, Malta was the sovereign domain of the crusading order of the knights of Malta who were responsible for many of its prestigious landmarks.
